92 Fraunhofer-Zentrum Erfurt Im Jahr 2025 wurde die organisatorische und strategische Leitung des Fraunhofer Zentrums Erfurt (FZE) durch das Fraunhofer Institut für Angewandte Optik und Feinmechanik IOF fortgeführt. Das FZE stellt die organisatorische und inhaltliche Fortführung des vormals bestehenden »Fraunhofer Zentrums für Mikroelektronische und Optische Systeme für die Biomedizin« (MEOS) dar. Mit der Reorganisation wird die strategische Zielsetzung verfolgt, die institutsübergreifende Zusammenarbeit der drei Fraunhofer Institute für Photonische Mikrosysteme IPMS, für Angewandte Optik und Feinmechanik IOF sowie für Zelltherapie und Immunologie IZI nachhaltig zu verstetigen und institutionell zu stärken. Das Zentrum fokussiert sich auch künftig auf die Durchführung anwendungsorientierter und industrienaher Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeiten in wissenschaftlich und technologisch relevanten Marktsegmenten. Dazu zählen insbesondere die Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien, die Medizintechnik, die Biotechnologie, die Biophotonik sowie die Entwicklung von Hochleistungslasersystemen und integrierten photonischen Schaltkreisen (PIC). Das Fraunhofer Zentrum Erfurt baute seine Aktivitäten im Bereich der photonischen Quantentechnologien gezielt aus und entwickelt sich neben Jena, zu einem zentralen Knotenpunkt der deutschen und europäischen Quantenkommunikationsinfrastruktur. Durch die Erweiterung der Anbindungsstrecken und die strategische Weiterentwicklung der Systemintegration wird die langfristige Einbindung Erfurts in zukünftige Quantennetzwerke gesichert. Durch die Bündelung interdisziplinärer Kompetenzen trägt das FZE wesentlich zur Generierung innovativer Lösungen und zur Stärkung des regionalen sowie nationalen Forschungsökosystems bei. These include information and communication technologies, medical engineering, biotechnology, biophotonics, and the development of high-performance laser systems and integrated photonic circuits (PIC). The Fraunhofer Center in Erfurt has systematically expanded its activities in the field of photonic quantum technologies and, alongside Jena, is developing into a central hub of the German and European quantum communication infrastructure. The expansion of connection routes and the strategic advancement of system integration will secure Erfurt’s long-term integration into future quantum networks. By pooling interdisciplinary expertise, the FZE is making a significant contribution to generating innovative solutions and strengthening the regional and national research ecosystem.
